Washington, 10 July 2026 (dpa/MIA) - Israel has warned the US government about an alleged Iranian plot to assassinate President Donald Trump, CNN and the Wall Street Journal reported on Thursday, citing unnamed sources.
According to the reports, Iran's leadership had only recently drawn up the plan. Details of the alleged plot were not immediately available.
The US administration has received similar warnings frequently in recent weeks, CNN reported, citing a US official. The warning from Israel was new, however, and included a specific assassination plan, the official said.
Another US official told CNN the warning could also have been an attempt to influence Trump's decisions on the war with Iran. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has recently pushed for a tougher stance towards Tehran and has clashed with Trump over the issue.
Trump fuelled speculation about security concerns after he did not use the new Air Force One as expected on his return flight from the NATO summit in Ankara.
"I'm number one on the kill list for Iran," he said, without elaborating.
