Reports: Israel has received further list of hostages for release

Tel Aviv, 29 November 2023 (dpa/MIA) - Israel has received another list of hostages held in the Gaza Strip for release, Israeli media reported on Wednesday.

The people on the list are expected to be released on Wednesday, the Times of Israel reported, citing Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office.

It remained unclear how many hostages would be released, however the report said the families of the hostages concerned had been informed.

This would be the sixth group of Gaza hostages to be released since a ceasefire between Palestinian Islamist organization Hamas and Israel began on Friday. So far, more than 81 hostages have been freed. In return, 180 Palestinians have been released from prison.

Out of the dozens of hostages released, 11 have been German-Israeli dual nationals.

During the unprecedented October 7 attacks, Hamas fighters killed some 1,200 people in Israeli border communities near Gaza, and some 240 were abducted into the coastal Gaza Strip.

Israel responded by launching its heaviest bombardment of densely populated Gaza Strip to date and also began a ground offensive into the coastal area, where Hamas seized power by force in 2007.

Since the beginning of the war, some 15,000 people have been killed in Gaza and more than 36,000 have been wounded, according to the Hamas-run Health Ministry there.

The numbers cannot currently be independently verified.
