Berlin, 12 October 2024 (dpa/MIA) - Former Bayern Munich and Chelsea coach Thomas Tuchel is talking to the Football Association about potentially taking over England, Germany's Welt TV reported on Friday.

Gareth Southgate quit as England boss after losing the Euro 2024 final to Spain in July. Interim coach Lee Carsley made a good start after stepping up from the under-21s but a 2-1 home defeat by Greece in the Nations League on Thursday prompted heavy media criticism.

Tuchel, who won the Champions League with Chelsea in 2021, left Bayern at the end of last season after they failed to win a trophy for the first time since 2012.

Pep Guardiola, whose Manchester City deal runs out in June, has also been tipped as a potential England coach if Carsley continues to struggle, while ex-Liverpool boss Jürgen Klopp seemingly ruled himself out by agreeing to become Red Bull head of global soccer from January.

Welt TV did not name its sources and does not break news on European football often.

Carsley's side visit Finland in Nations League Group B2 on Sunday.
