Tel Aviv/Gaza, 29 February 2024 (dpa/MIA) - According to a media report, around 10 people were hit by shots fired by Israeli soldiers in the north of Gaza during a mass panic as aid was being handed out to Palestinians on Thursday morning.

This was the result of the investigation launched by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) after the incident occurred, the Times of Israel reported.

The Israeli army said civilians had stormed the aid lorries to loot them and dozens of people were trampled after chaos broke out.

Israeli media reports, citing army sources, said a crowd endangered Israeli troops by approaching them without a reason and the military therefore opened fire. People were also run over by lorries.

The military released aerial footage said to confirm this.

Palestinian extremist organization Hamas, on the other hand, accused Israel's army of deliberately attacking the crowd in the city of Gaza and opening fire on the crowd waiting.

The Hamas-controlled Health Ministry in Gaza accused Israeli soldiers of shooting dead 104 people and injuring 760.

According to the Israeli military, soldiers fired warning shots into the air and fired at the legs of those who approached the soldiers.

Neither of these claims could be independently verified.
