Cairo, 28 October 2023 (dpa/MIA) – A collision involving multiple vehicles on a highway in Egypt killed at least 32 people on Saturday, a media report said.
Sixty others were injured in the accident on the Cairo-Alexandria desert road, state-owned newspaper al-Ahram reported online.
Investigations revealed that an oil leak from a passing car led to a collision among a large number of vehicles with several of them catching fire, the report said.
Six vehicles, including a passenger bus, were gutted by fire as a result, it added.
Fatal road crashes are relatively common in Egypt. They are often blamed on reckless driving and poor road conditions.
In recent years, Egypt has built a network of new routes, aimed at improving the overall quality of the roads.
