St. Cyril, the Enlightener of the Slavs
This day is celebrated in honor of the St. Cyril (before becoming a monk, Constantine the philosopher, the brother of St. Methodius).
St. Cyril died in Rome in 869. Together with St. Methodius created the alphabet of the Slavs and brought them to the gates of the real enlightenment, i.e., before the Christ (the baptism was named enlightenment).
Catholic Calendar
St. Gabriel Francis of our Lady of Sorrows
Passionist monk who died young. Born Francis Possenti in Assisi, Italy, in 1838, he was seriously ill as a child. He joined the Passionists in Morovalle in 1856 and died in Isola of consumption six years later.
Gabriel was canonized in 1920. His cult was confined to local calendars in 1969.
