Rehabilitation of Skopje-Blace road completed, first section of motorway to finish in March

Skopje, 25 January 2024 (MIA) - The EUR 3.8 million-worth rehabilitation of 10km-long state road Skopje-border crossing Blace has been completed, while the construction of the first two kilometers of the highway section on this route is expected to finish by March.

Minister of Transport and Communications Blagoj Bochvarski and State Roads public enterprise director Ejup Rustemi, accompanied by Deputy PM Artan Grubi, marked Thursday the completion of the road's rehabilitation works.

"A new elastic fence has been placed, the road has been broadened, and the tunnel has been renovated, thus improving the road's security. This is one of the roads leading to the four border crossings that have been put into use in recent months, namely Bitola-Medzhitlija, Struga-Kjafasan and Kriva Palanka-Deve Bair, which shows our commitment to infrastructure links with neighbors," said Minister Bochvarski.

Director Rustemi said the first two kilometers of the highway on the Skopje-Blace route will be soon put into use, with ongoing procedures on selecting a contractor and supervision for the 10km as part of the second stage of construction.

According to announcements, rehabilitated motorway sections Katlanovo-Veles and Veles-Gradsko are to be put into use in the coming period.
