Rama: Albania to ask EU for decoupling from North Macedonia
Tirana, 7 April 2022 (MIA) – Albania will ask the European Union for decoupling from North Macedonia in the accession path because of the continued Bulgarian veto on Skopje, said Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama on Thursday.
Speaking in Tirana, PM Rama said he was not an optimist that Bulgaria would soon lift the veto.
“Albania can no longer wait for the two neighbors to resolve their dispute,” said Rama and added Tirana has good relations with both countries.
According to him, Albania’s course on the issue would change completely.
Rama’s comments came after a presentation of a national survey of half a million respondents, showing that 67 percent want the EU accession path of the two countries to continue on separate tracks.
