Berlin, 14 August 2025 (dpa/MIA) - Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain claimed a dramatic 4-3 win on penalties against Europa League champions Tottenham to win the UEFA Supercup on Wednesday.
Tottenham were leading 2-0 until the final stages of regular time thanks to goals from Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero.
But Kangin Lee pulled one back for PSG in the 85th minute and fellow substitute Gonçalo Ramos equalized in stoppage time to force the shoot-out.
Tottenham had the perfect start, while Vitinha missed the first penalty for PSG.
But Van de Ven's effort was saved and Mathys Tel's attempt went out, while the French side didn't miss the target any more and Nuno Mendes scored the winning spot-kick.
This is PSG's first Supercup title following their maiden Champions League trophy after a 5-0 win against Inter Milan in May.
From 2-0 up to no trophy
Tottenham ended a 17-year wait for a major trophy last season and were bidding to become the first Europa League winners to win the UEFA Supercup since Atletico Madrid in 2018.
It looked like all was going according to plan when Van de Ven broke the deadlock in the 39th minute.
João Palhinha's effort was tipped against the crossbar by goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier and the rebound fell to the Netherlands international, who struck the ball into the net.
Thomas Frank had more reasons to believe he would take home a trophy in his first competitive match in charge when new captain Romero completed Pedro Porro's free-kick into the net in the 48th.
But after the second goal, Tottenham sat deep into their own half and lost control of the game.
Lee fired a low, arrowed finish from the edge of the box to give PSG hopes and Ramos finished off Ousmane Dembele's cross to complete Tottenham's misery.
