Protests against French proposal enter second week
Skopje, 11 July 2022 (MIA) - People gathered in front on the government in Skopje for the eighth day in a row to protest against the French proposal put forward to lift the Bulgarian veto and enable the opening of the EU negotiations.
After arriving in front of the government, protesters carrying Macedonian flags headed toward the Justice Ministry before arriving in front of Parliament.
Protesters, backed by the opposition parties VMRO-DPMNE and Levica, demand resignation from the government over the French proposal.
On Monday, the protest, held for two weeks under the slogan "Ultimatum - No Thanks", was peaceful after last week's incidents involving clashes with police in front of the legislative house's building in Skopje.
Police presence was heightened during today's protest in downtown Skopje.
Protests have been held every day at 7 pm, except on Saturday due to the Muslim holiday Qurban Bayram. Last Friday, roadblocks as a show of protest against the proposal were erected in Skopje and on three highways.
