Prosecutor's office for organized crime and corruption to look into allegations on unlawful interception of communications

Skopje, 2 September 2025 (MIA) - At the instruction of Chief Prosecutor Ljupcho Kocevski, the Prosecutor's Office for Organized Crime and Corruption will look into the allegations on unlawful interception of the PM's communications and following the latest reports coming from the National Security Agency (NSA).

The Prosecutor's office said Tuesday there is no possibility for the institution to carry out unlawful interception of communications.

The Office only forwards the NSA requests for preventive intelligence measures to the Supreme Court, which then issues an order for the measures' realization. According to the Law on Surveillance of Communications, an order for special investigative measures can be issued only for crimes strictly stipulated in the law, reads the press release.

On Monday, NSA director Bojan Hristovski said the agency "was anything but a reformed institution”.

"It was more of a façade than a reformed institution. What happened inside involved a small group, including a former director and a few employees, and we have indications that they abused their official positions. The Public Prosecutor’s Office has been informed, and I cannot share more details about this, as they are highly classified and sensitive. We do not want to disrupt any legal proceedings or interfere with a process that is underway or may be initiated by the Public Prosecutor’s Office," Hristovski said.

Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski said the Intelligence Agency and the NSA thoroughly focused on him and then-opposition party VMRO-DPMNE, as well as journalists and businessmen, adding that he expects the people who were doing the wiretapping will end up behind bars.

“I expect these rodents to end up where they belong, behind bars. So that, once and for all, we can put an end to the abuse of this type of agencies and their resources,” the PM said.
