Skopje, 22 August 2024 (MIA) - An individual arrested on Wednesday under suspicion of being involved in the murder near the Mavrovka mall is a convict who had escaped from the Skopje prison, said the Skopje-based Basic Prosecutor's Office on Thursday.

On Wednesday evening, the Interior Ministry said one of the suspects involved in the deadly shooting in the parking lot near Mavrovka handed himself in to the police.

Material evidence is currently being analyzed to determine whether the individual was involved in the case. The fugitive has been taken back to prison, the Prosecutor's Office said.

“Since the arrested individual has been convicted for a separate crime and had escaped from the Skopje prison, on the basis of an issued search warrant and following consultations with a public prosecutor he was taken back to prison today with maximum security measures,” the Prosecutor's Office said in a press release.

Previously as part of the case, the Basic Public Prosecutor’s Office launched an investigation into another individual suspected of murder, attempted murder, and illegal possession of a firearm, and ordered a 30-day detention.
