Berlin, 18 January 2026 (dpa/MIA) — Slovenian Domen Prevc crowned his weekend with a second win at the ski jumping World Cup in Sapporo, Japan on Sunday.
With jumps of 137.5 metres and 136.5 metres, the World Cup leader beat home favourite and Olympic champion Ryōyū Kobayashi by 3.9 points.
Defending champion Daniel Tschofenig of Austria was third.
"It was tough, especially because I made a big mistake in the second round where I was a bit too aggressive and I needed to be calm," Prevc said.
"I wasn't able to put the real power in the right direction, so my skis came up a bit too high and I had trouble but fortunately I got lots of wind, which helped with those essential meters."
Prevc now holds a lead of 467 points in the standings, as he closes in on what would be the first overall title of his career.
The prestigious landmark has already been achieved by his elder brother Peter Prevc (2015-2016) and sister Nika Prevc (2023-24 and 2024-25), who's en course to claim a third title this season.
Five time world champion, meanwhile, Karl Geiger has failed to qualify for the 2026 Olympics next month.
The German achieved his best result of the season so far with 14th place in Sapporo. However, to meet the internal team standard, the he would have had to finish at least eighth.
The disqualification of Austrian Stefan Kraft was also a talking point in Sapporo.
The three-time World Cup winner was removed from the competition during the qualifying round due to a non-compliant jumpsuit.
