Athens, 9 April 2024 (MIA) – The need for a strict implementation of the Prespa Agreement, as well as the position that it represents not only an obligation of the country, but that it also can’t be changed unilaterally, were highlighted by Greek diplomatic sources in a statement for ANA-MPA, MIA’s Athens correspondent reports.

The Greek diplomatic sources spoke about all current issues in Greek foreign policy, i.e., the next steps in the relations with Turkey, Kosovo, as well as with North Macedonia.

In reference to North Macedonia, the diplomatic sources noted that the Prespa Agreement must be strictly implemented and said that the memoranda, which are not yet ratified in the Greek Parliament, would be ratified if the other side observes all the steps.

“The diplomatic sources noted that Greece is closely monitoring political developments, where national elections will be held in May. Referring to the statements of the leader of the official opposition that the country won't be referred to as ‘North Macedonia’, they noted that the ‘logic of the Prespa Agreement represents not only an obligation for the country, but it also can’t be changed unilaterally and prevails over all other provisions’,” ANA-MPA wrote.

Regarding Greece’s relations with Turkey, the same sources briefed that a new round of talks over the trust-building measures will be held on April 22 in Athens, and four days later in Istanbul, the two delegations will discuss cooperation, i.e., the positive agenda.

In terms of the issue of Kosovo, they said “there has been no change in attitude, nor do we intend for there to be a change in attitude.”
