Skopje, 20 November 2024 (MIA) - President Gordana Siljanovska Davkova received Wednesday the credentials of the newly appointed Ambassador of Canada, Michelle Cameron, based in Belgrade.
At the handover ceremony, President Siljanovska Davkova expressed hope that during Ambassador Cameron's term new opportunities will open for expanding cooperation and deepening the friendship between the two peoples, and expressed expectation for strengthening the ties between the two countries, the President's Office said in a press release.
"I would like to express my gratitude for Canada's support to my country in the process of reforms and our integration in the EU, as well as our partnership and cooperation within NATO. That partnership is particularly important to us and we deeply value it. At a time when the world is facing many challenges, our cooperation and solidarity are more important than ever," President Siljanovska Davkova said.
She pointed to possibilities for increasing economic cooperation, trade relations and investments, as well as cooperation in the area of education.
"The young generations of pupils, students, as well as our administration and institutions, need to acquire new knowledge, adopt advanced methods and solutions from the Canadian system, which can be applied here as well, with the aim of more efficient governance and greater progress of the country in every field," said Siljanovska Davkova.
Ambassador Cameron highlighted Canada's support to the country, underlining the partnership within NATO.
She pointed out that as NATO partners, the two countries are working together to overcome a generational challenge to the security of Europe - and the world.
In addition, Ambassador Cameron extended congratulations on the new leadership role in NATO with the appointment of a Macedonian woman as Deputy Chief.
"I am here to make our economies stronger through initiative, entrepreneurship, trade and investment. There is a foundation to build upon. I consider it a personal challenge, perhaps with the help of over a hundred thousand Macedonians who also call Canada home now," said Ambassador Cameron, highlighting her commitment to deepening and strengthening all ties that unite the two countries, towards upgrading the strategic partnership, the country's progress towards the European Union and the common commitment to security, democracy and prosperity.
