President receives Swedish Parliament's Friendship Group delegation

Skopje, 10 November 2025 (MIA) — President Gordana Siljanovska Davkova received Monday a delegation of Swedish Parliament's Friendship Group with North Macedonia, led by Swedish Member of Parliament Lotta Johnsson Fornarve and accompanied by Swedish Ambassador Ola Sohlström.

According to an official press release, President Siljanovska Davkova praised the excellent cooperation with the Swedish MPs, which she said was based on mutual trust and respect, fundamental for strengthening bilateral relations even more.

"She recalled that Sweden was the fourth largest bilateral donor to the country and that its support was seen not only through development aid but also through its role of EU reform facilitator," the release said.

"As a former member of the Steering Committee for Cooperation with the Swedish Parliament, Siljanovska Davkova stressed that Swedish parliamentary democracy has always been an example to learn from. According to her, the experience gained from this cooperation serves as an incentive for new, open and constructive dialogue that will strengthen the country's political culture and institutional maturity," it said.

According to the release, the Swedish lawmakers "expressed their readiness and resolve to continue parliamentary cooperation, exchange democratic experiences and help and support the Macedonian European integration process."

"The president said progress toward the EU needed to be based on a merit system, and not on political stipulations and unilateral demands," the release said. mr/
