President Pendarovski to deliver annual address in Parliament on Dec. 22
Skopje, 16 December 2021 (MIA) – President Stevo Pendarovski will address MPs next Wednesday (Dec. 22) at noon, during Parliament's 56th session, the institution posted on its website on Thursday.
Pendarovski will talk about current affairs, as well as expectations from next year. He will address MPs amid tense political climate, seeing as the formation of a new government is underway, the opposition is demanding early elections and the country once again failed to get a green light to start EU accession negotiations, due to the Bulgarian veto.
The President will deliver his annual address in Parliament in the same week that Prime Minister Zoran Zaev is set to resign. The outgoing PM said on Wednesday that after the resignation is approved in Parliament, he expects to be succeeded by the new SDSM leader Dimitar Kovachevski at the helm of the government.
After Zaev resigns, Pendarovski is supposed to give the mandate to the new PM-designate.
In line with the Constitution, the President is obliged, within 10 days to entrust the government-forming mandate to the party or parties which has/have a majority in Parliament. Within 20 days of being entrusted the mandate, the PM-designate submits a programme to Parliament and proposes the composition of the government.
