President Pendarovski presents caretaker government mandate to Talat Xhaferi

Skopje, 26 January 2024 (MIA) – At a ceremony Friday, President Stevo Pendarovski presented Talat Xhaferi with the mandate for the creation of a caretaker government that will lead the country until the election of a new government after the general elections.
After receiving the mandate, Xhaferi promised that, in accordance with the laws and Constitution, he will lead the negotiations for the creation of the transitional government in line with the political needs and the situation in the country.
“With pleasure and full responsibility I accept the mandate presented by the President, and with a promise, that in accordance with the laws and Constitution, the composition of the government and the negotiations over the composition of the government will be led in line with the political needs and the situation in the country,” said Xhaferi.
He added that he hopes he will be able to create an appropriate government composition with the appropriate tasks, duties and responsibilities to the citizens.
Earlier on Friday, at its 139th session, the Parliament confirmed the resignations of Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski and Parliament Speaker Talat Xhaferi, and elected SDSM’s Jovan Mitreski as Xhaferi’s successor.
Parliament is expected to vote for the caretaker government at a session on Sunday, January 28.
