President Pendarovski: N. Macedonia, Bulgaria governments should restore trust
Skopje, 18 January 2022 (MIA) – Restoring of trust between the two governments is necessary, which is to contribute to strengthening good neighborly relations and political dialogue on more sensitive matters. It is essential to settle mutual misunderstanding to allow the Macedonian EU integration process to proceed uninterrupted and to neutralize growing Euro-skepticism and negative tendencies in the region, President Stevo Pendarovski said at Tuesday’s meeting with Bulgarian Prime Minister Kiril Petkov during his official visit to Skopje. North Macedonia, he said, in the spirit of good neighborly ties and respecting the principle of equality between the two sides has strong political will to resume the dialogue aimed at finding a compromise on open issues. “During the meeting, ways to improve bilateral cooperation in several spheres of mutual interest were discussed given the fact that North Macedonia and Bulgaria are immediate neighbors and NATO allies. The President expressed support for the launched dialogue between the two governments, the presented proposals and for the intention to intensify talks in the coming period in order measurable results to be produced in the interest of the citizens,” Pendarovski’s office said. According to the President, North Macedonia opening accession negotiations with the EU will be beneficial for the prosperity and stability of the whole region. “It will further improve cooperation in the economy, trade, infrastructural connectivity as well as cooperation in education, healthcare and culture,” said the press release.
