Hamburg, 23 May 2025 (dpa/MIA) - The suspect in the knife attack at the central train station in the northern German city of Hamburg is a 39-year-old German woman, police said on Friday.

A police spokesman told dpa that authorities are investigating whether the suspect, who was detained shortly after the attack, was in a state of mental distress.

"After an initial video review, we assume that the woman acted alone," the spokesman added.

Police have not confirmed the number of victims. A spokesman for the Hamburg fire service said six people suffered life-threatening injuries.
