PM Zaev: No early elections expected, gov’t to focus on economy by 2024
Skopje, 18 November 2021 (MIA) – Prime Minister Zoran Zaev during a meeting Thursday in Skopje with Austria’s Federal Minister for European and International Affairs Michael Linhart said the government has stable parliamentary majority, adding he hopes it will be boosted. Zaev said he doesn’t expect the country to hold early parliamentary elections, the government said in a press release. “We have stable parliamentary majority, we expect the majority to be increased and we don’t expect early parliamentary elections, on the contrary. Until the regular elections in 2024, the government will remain committed to strong development of the economy,” Zaev said during the meeting with Linhart. PM Zaev’s special contribution to stability in the country and the region was welcomed, said the press release. “Also, Austria’s strong support for resumption of the EU enlargement process with Western Balkan countries, more precisely the opening of EU negotiations with North Macedonia in December was noted,” it added saying that the Austrian representatives expressed interest into new investments in the country. PM Zaev thanked Austria for its friendship and principled support, being one of the strongest supporters of North Macedonia’s Euro-Atlantic perspectives and one of the largest investors, and also for demonstrating solidarity during the pandemic. “We implemented reforms, we demonstrated leadership in solving good neighborly relations through dialogue. The country is an example in the region of functional multi-ethnic society. We expect the European Union to deliver what it has promised as soon as possible in order to start negotiating with the bloc,” said Zaev. The PM also presented the benefits the investors in the country enjoy. The business delegation expressed interest in investing in energy, primarily in renewable energy sources.
