PM Kovachevski holds phone call with Ukrainian counterpart amid standoff with Russia
Skopje, 23 February 2022 (MIA) – North Macedonia supports the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine, Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski told his Ukrainian counterpart Denys Shmyhal in a phone call on Wednesday.
North Macedonia, said Kovachevski, condemns the decision of Russia to recognize the independence of the Ukrainian breakaway territories of Donetsk and Luhansk, the government said.
“During the telephone conversation with the Ukrainian Prime Minister, Kovachevski called Russia’s move direct attack on the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine and blatant violation of international law,” said the press release.
Kovachevski told Shmyhal that North Macedonia supports Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity within the internationally recognized borders and joins the calls of NATO allies to Moscow to solve the conflict through peaceful and diplomatic means.
“PM Kovachevski during the call confirmed North Macedonia is aligned with the foreign and security policy of the EU and NATO involving sanctions for Russia as a response to its unprincipled actions,” said the press release.
