PM Kovachevski, Azerbaijani FM Bayramov hold meeting in New York: energy in focus
Skopje, 22 September 2022 (MIA) – Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski met Thursday in New York with the Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Ceyhun Bayramov, discussing energy crisis and opportunities for cooperation in the area of energy supply and the possibility of connecting to the gas pipeline network.
During the meeting, they underlined that Russia's aggression against Ukraine leads to the energy crisis in the world and this situation is felt more in Europe, which has caused surge of natural gas prices, the government said in a press release.
“It was emphasized that Azerbaijan contributes to overcoming the energy crisis by developing the existing gas pipelines. They also discussed that the EU is moving towards reliable suppliers of energy, and Azerbaijan is one of them, through the expansion of the Southern Gas Corridor by doubling the gas supplies from Azerbaijan to the EU,” reads the press release.
PM Kovachevski said gas interconnector with Greece will provide North Macedonia with access to gas from Azerbaijan. North Macedonia’s Government priority is the construction of a national gas pipeline system and its connection to regional gas pipeline systems. PM Kovachevski and FM Bayramov also discussed deepening the bilateral cooperation between the two countries, the press release reads.
