PM: European integration our priority, path not shameful but dignified

Skopje, 8 September 2025 (MIA) - European integration is our priority and this path should no longer be shameful but dignified, said Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski in his remarks at the academy marking Independence Day on Monday.

"European integration is our priority. It was, it is and it will remain a top priority. However, this path should no longer be shameful but dignified. It should be a path on which we will be equal with all other European nations, and not humiliated and ashamed as we all feel now," said PM Mickoski.

Regarding the proposal on the red lines in the negotiations with Bulgaria initiated by SDSM leader Venko Filipche, Mickoski said he is waiting for the document, while adding that the matter would not be played with as long as he is PM.

"I eagerly expect this proposal to come, from the ones who accepted a declaration on not changing the name and then they changed it, those who said there would be no ultimatums and then brought the French proposal, those who urged for a referendum and then did not accept the results. Let's see what these red lines are, whose color will be more pale than the white, because you cannot speak of red lines while saying 'we must accept what is put on the table, unconditionally'. Let me assure you, we will not play with these matters while I am Prime Minister. The country will be safe," said Mickoski.

My focus, he added, is European education, happy farmers, proper working conditions, investments, good standard of life.

"My focus as PM is a true European education process, happy farmers who stay in the country, pensioners who enjoy their life after everything they have done for their family and country, workers with the same working conditions as their European counterparts, strong economy, investments, best standard of life on the Balkans and one of the best in Europe. This is my dream and the dream of my generation. I am sure all of you agree it is worth the sacrifice to make this dream happen. Today, we are again facing times that require courage and commitment. And again, we must make the right choice - the one of work, togetherness, the future we leave for our children," underlined Mickoski.
