Philosophers to gather for Adam Smith symposium on World Philosophy Day
- The Institute of Philosophy at the state university's Faculty of Philosophy and the Philosophical Society of Macedonia will mark World Philosophy Day by organizing a symposium in honor of Scottish economist and philosopher Adam Smith's 300th birth anniversary.
Skopje, 16 November 2023 (MIA) — The Institute of Philosophy at the state university's Faculty of Philosophy and the Philosophical Society of Macedonia will mark World Philosophy Day by organizing a symposium in honor of Scottish economist and philosopher Adam Smith's 300th birth anniversary.
This is the 20th time that World Philosophy Day has been celebrated in the country. The Faculty of Philosophy dean Ratko Duev and Institute of Philosophy head Ana Dimishkovska will open the event.
This year's symposium will gather philosophy scholars including Ljubomir Gajdov, Radomir Videnovic (Serbia), Denko Skalovski, Stephen Friedman (USA), Jasmina Popovska, Boshko Karadzhov, Kushtrim Ahmeti and Igor Pop Trajkov.
Led by Darko Bageski, a guitar quintet made up of Faculty of Music undergraduates will perform pieces by Egberto Gismonti, Astor Piazzolla, and J. S. Bach at the event.
Also, Ferid Muhikj will receive the newly established Konstantin Philosopher Award for lifetime achievement in philosophy.
According to organizers, World Philosophy Day was established by UNESCO and is celebrated worldwide on the third Thursday of November to extol the values and benefits of philosophy.
The country celebrated World Philosophy Day for the first time in 2004 by holding a two-day symposium on English philosopher John Locke. mr/
