Skopje, 1 February 2024 (MIA) — The Philharmonic Orchestra will give Thursday a concert featuring the Netherlands-based Bulgarian percussionist Tatiana Koleva as soloist, conducted by Emil Tabakov from Bulgaria.
According to the Philharmonic in a press release, the concert program includes Tabakov's own "Concerto for Marimba, Vibraphone, Tradional Bulgarian Drum," which will be performed for the first time in the country, and Ludwig van Beethoven's "Symphony No. 2 in D major."
Tabakov's concerto was written in 2015 and premiered two years later, with the Gabrovo Chamber Orchestra conducted by Tabakov and featuring percussionist Miroslav Dimov. The concerto consists of three movements, each showcasing a percussion solo.
Beethoven wrote "Symphony No. 2 in D major" amid a great personal crisis, when he was experiencing hearing loss. mr/
