Skopje, 19 June 2024 (MIA) – The Macedonian Philharmonic on Wednesday will give its annual free open-air performance at the Skopje City Park. This year, the concert is titled “Odyssey 2024”, inspired by the “2001: A Space Odyssey” - the 1968 science fiction film by American director Stanley Kubrick.
Conducted by maestra Dijana Imeri Ilkoska, the orchestra will perform pieces by some of the world’s greatest composers, including Mozart, Strauss, Rossini, Khachaturian, Elgar, Handel, Puk and Shostakovich, whose compositions were the soundtrack of Kubrick’s masterpieces, including “2001: A Space Odyssey”, “Clockwork Orange”, “Barry Lyndon” and “Eyes Wide Shut”.
“Kubrick saw music as one of the most powerful weapons in his work, which is why his selection of tracks was quite delicate. It is the music of classical composers that make Kubrick’s films all the more recognizable giving them a unique aesthetics,” the Philharmonic has said.
