Skopje, 29 September 2022 (MIA) — The new concert season of the Philharmonic will begin Oct. 6 with “Zornina,” a concert of works by Mozart, and all concerts in the 2022-23 season will have as titles archaic Macedonian words to highlight the richness of the language, according to Philharmonic director Tina Ivanova at a news conference Thursday. Ivanova said that the opening concert and its title symbolized the birth of a new dawn. "Zornina" will be conducted by Gudni A. Emilsson and feature pianists Alexei Volodin and Edith Peña as soloists. The concert will present Mozart’s Overture to the Marriage of Figaro; the Piano concerto No.23 in A major, K 488; the Piano concerto No.20 in d minor, K 466; and the Concerto for two pianos and orchestra No.10 in E flat major, K 365 (316 a). Ivanova pointed out that the entire first week would be dedicated to Mozart and include a screening of “Amadeus” (1984) by Miloš Forman at the Cinematheque on Oct. 5. “Dalga” is the title of the second concert, which the Philharmonic will perform in Skopje on Oct. 12 and in Belgrade on Oct. 14. Gabriel Bebeselea will conduct the orchestra, performing Petrovski’s Drunken Dance Pajdushko; Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 6 “Pathetique” in B minor, Op. 74; and Rodrigo’s Concierto de Aranjuez for guitar and orchestra, with Spanish guitarist Rafael Aguirre as soloist. According to Ivanova, the entire 2022-23 concert season has been named “The Pulse of Freedom.” “Our slogan last year was ‘The Philharmonic in Motion,’ which meant the Philharmonic never stopped working despite the covid pandemic,” Ivanova said. She added that the new season would offer a variety of concerts conducted by Condrad van Alphen, Emil Tabakov, Borjan Canev, Viktor Mitrevski, and others. A large number of Macedonian musicians will appear as soloists, including violinists Vladimir Kostov and Daniel Lazarevski, harpsichordist Cvetanka Sozovska, and tenor Blagoj Nacoski. The Philharmonic will also launch its new concert album at the opening of the season. Released under the Con:tempo label, the album is a recording of the “Philharmonic in the Heart” concert of works by Arensky, Dvořák and Zografski. The concert was conducted by Dijana Imeri Ilkoska and featured Elena Dojchinova (flute) and Vladimir Lazarevski (oboe) as soloists. mr/
