Penov: Shelter construction to solve stray dogs issue in nine Vardar region municipalities

Kavadarci, 28 April 2023 (MIA) – With the construction of a shelter, the Government will solve the issue with stray dogs in nine municipalities in the Vardar region, said Minister of Local Self-Government, Risto Penov on Friday.
Penov said the construction of a stray dogs shelter in the territory of the Municipality of Kavadarci is set to begin, and it will provide a solution to the issue for 150.000 citizens.
“The agreement for the financing of the regional project has been signed. The total budget of the project stands at Mden 20.916.000, 9.5 million of which are aid from the Swiss Government, while the rest are secured by the Ministry of Local Self-Government” said Penov.
On Friday, Penov met with the Mayor of the Municipality of Kavadarci, Mitko Janchev, with whom he discussed the sustainability of the project.
“I welcome the initiative of the municipality and the regional approach to the issue, which should be followed by the other regions as well,” said Penov.
The construction of the shelter will provide adequate conditions for the continued care of stray dogs, while also increasing the safety of the citizens.
Additionally, the manner in which citizens report issues will be facilitated by a special web platform, and a system for registration and tracking of stray dogs will be established as well.
