Skopje, 25 July 2023 (MIA) – Over the past decades, the Institute of Earthquake Engineering and Engineering Seismology (IZIIS) has developed into a respectable institution that enables the training of professions, civil engineers, architects, and planners on the highest level, with the aim of advancing planning and design, by applying the newest modern techniques, methods and procedures, President Stevo Pendarovski said at the closing event on Tuesday held at IZIIS, on the 60th anniversary of the devastating Skopje earthquake.

President Pendarovski added that IZIIS's brand is affirmed and recognized by the professional public, not only in North Macedonia or the wider region, but also within the global frameworks.

Regarding the commemoration of the 60th anniversary since the devastating Skopje earthquake, he said that this is an opportunity to remember, before all else, our fellow citizens that tragically lost their lives.

"Apart from the dark memories, this anniversary is also an opportunity to remember the fact that after the earthquake, Skopje became globally known as a city of solidarity, a place where humanity, as opposed to ideological differences, united in order to help our capital come back to life," stressed President Pendarovski. ssh/sk/
