Pendarovski: As long as we speak it, as long as we create in Macedonian, our language will exist and all irrational denial will be meaningless

Skopje, 5 May 2024 (MIA) - As long as we speak it, as long as we create in Macedonian, our language will exist and all irrational denial will be meaningless, President Stevo Pendarovski said in his message on Macedonian Language Day - May 5.

"Congratulations on the Macedonian Language Day - May 5. Exactly 79 years ago, the Macedonian alphabet was legalized, thus the continuous development of the Macedonian language through the centuries finally gets its own frame and is formalized. From the first Church Slavonic manuscripts dating back to the 10th century, through the clearly manifested awareness of its uniqueness in the 19th century, culminating in the work of Misirkov, then further through Racin to Koneski, Kepeski, Lape... until today, the Macedonian language has been developing and enriching itself by strengthening its position in the world family of languages," Pendarovski said.

The Macedonian language as the official language in our homeland, he points out, is spoken by our citizens, the numerous Macedonians in the diaspora, as well as many linguists Slavists and Macedonian studies scholars all over the world.

"As long as we speak it, as long as we create in Macedonian, our language will exist and all irrational denial will be meaningless. As long as its speakers are alive, the language will be alive, and as long as the Macedonian language is alive, our Macedonian identity will exist. Therefore, let's protect it and cherish it, and always use the kindest and most beautiful words expressing respect, attention and love," President Pendarovski says in his message on Macedonian Language Day.
