Parliament Speaker Gashi meets IRI director Fluharty

Skopje, 25 September 2024 (MIA) – Parliament Speaker Afrim Gashi, and the Secretary General, Marina Dimovska, met Wednesday with the Director of the International Republican Institute (IRI), John Fluharty.

During the meeting, views were exchanged on the existing cooperation between the Parliament of the Republic of North Macedonia and the IRI, along with potential opportunities for enhancing and expanding cooperation in the future and in other segments.

According to the Parliament’s press release, there was a willingness to further support logistics aimed at strengthening the capacities of the legislative authority in areas such as legislation, expert services, transparency, and independence.

The interlocutors specifically addressed the opportunities for enhancing the Parliament's oversight role, as well as its transparency towards the public.

President Gashi emphasized his vision for complete openness of the Parliament, both spatially and institutionally, in the interest of the citizens, who are the bearers of sovereignty.

During the meeting, opinions were exchanged regarding the challenges that the Parliament faces concerning the steps needed to fulfil the country’s strategic objective of EU integration.
