Osmani briefed Lührmann on EU integration process and constitutional changes

Skopje, 31 May 2023 (MIA) - Foreign Minister Bujar Osmani had a bilateral meeting with the Minister of State for Europe and Climate at the German Federal Foreign Office, Anna Lührmann during the GlobSec Forum 2023 in Bratislava on Wednesday.

Talks focused on North Macedonia's European file, during which Osmani briefed on the upcoming process of the adoption of constitutional changes, with the aim to open the first cluster of the accession negotiations, and he thanked for their firm support, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Wednesday in a press statement.

Osmani introduced the interlocutor to the "More integration before EU membership" concept, and pointed out that "on one hand, the time before full membership would be used by the countries in the region, and on the other, it would add more credibility to the accession process."

"I believe that our requests for gradual access to the funds, policies, and mutual market in the Union are realistic, in order for our citizens to experience the benefits of European integration earlier. With this, the rising Euroscepticism would be transformed into mutual trust even more quickly during the reform realization in our country," Osmani said.

Osmani and Lührmann exchanged opinions on the current events in northern Kosovo, the need for immediate de-escalation, and bringing back talks that should produce sustainable solutions, the press release adds. ssh/sk/
