Osmani – Peach: Cooperation and strong support from the UK to continue
Skopje, 27 October 2022 (MIA) – Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bujar Osmani, met Thursday with the United Kingdom’s Special Envoy to the Western Balkans, Sir Stuart Peach, who is on a two-day working visit to North Macedonia.
In a press release, the MFA said that Osmani welcomed Peach’s intense engagement in the Western Balkan region, which is a confirmation of the United Kingdom’s continued commitment to the region.
The Minister introduced the Special Envoy to the EU accession negotiations process, and the opening of the screening process, stating that it will contribute to further progress in the country’s EU integration, through the implementation of the EU reforms.
At the meeting, Osmani and Peach also touched upon the successful cooperation between the two countries in other areas of mutual interest. The United Kingdom remains North Macedonia’s second largest trade partner, and one of the largest direct foreign investors in the country.
“The Special Envoy, assured the minister that the United Kingdom will continue to support North Macedonia’s European integration and the process of maintaining security and stability in the entire Western Balkan region, with the goal of overcoming all risks and consequences of the war in Ukraine. He welcomed North Macedonia’s role and firm commitment to safeguarding global peace and security as a NATO ally,” said the MFA in the press release.
