Skopje, 30 April 2024 (MIA) — The Menada women's choir from Tetovo will give an Orthodox Easter concert of sacred choral music at Ohrid's St. Sophia church.
Conducted by Ivica Zorikj, the concert is organized as part of the Ohrid Summer festival's off-season events.
"This concert completes our program outside the traditional festival days between July 12 and August 20. We have had wonderful concerts throughout the year," Ohrid Summer director Natasha Popovikj said.
The Menada women's choir performs choral compositions from various eras of Macedonian and world choral a cappella and vocal-instrumental music.
The choir has won numerous international awards and performed at festivals and competitions in the Czech Republic, Poland, Spain, Sweden, the Netherlands, Denmark, Portugal, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Serbia, Albania, Romania, Bulgaria, Turkey, Germany, Greece, Slovenia, Austria, Belgium, and Kosovo.
Menada women's choir was founded in 1981 in Tetovo by Ivica Zorikj, a renowned choir conductor who holds a doctorate from the Faculty of Music Arts in Skopje. In 1977 he founded the children's choir Lale. The choirs he leads have performed more than 500 compositions in 18 languages, giving over 1,000 concerts in the country and abroad.
Zorikj is a member of the European Choral Association's committee. He has received many awards, including Tetovo's 'November 19' award and the 'October 11' national award. mr/
