Skopje, 27 January 2025 (MIA) - The leader of opposition party SDSM, Venko Filipche, said Monday he supports Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski in the efforts to schedule a meeting with Bulgaria's Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov as soon as possible to discuss potential guarantees in relation to North Macedonia’s EU accession talks.
“One of the arguments was that there is no political government in Sofia. Now there is one, and I absolutely support the Prime Minister to seek a meeting with the political government and the Prime Minister in Bulgaria as soon as possible, so that we can finally clear this up and see whether we can get some additional guarantees. We will support any improved proposal. Absolutely, any form of additional guarantees, however, this should happen as soon as possible since time is running out. Albania and Montenegro are making significant steps forward,” Filipche said at a press conference Monday.
The SDSM leader said the previous governments led by his party did the most they could do.
“I think there is a clear affirmation of the identity, the Macedonian language – we already signed an agreement with the EU, but it is legitimate for the Government to seek additional guarantees,” Filipche said.
