One dead in Chelopek fire, says CMC’s Angelov
Kumanovo, 5 August 2021 (MIA) – Crisis Management Center (CMC) Director Stojanche Angelov at a news conference Thursday offered condolences after a woman died in her house engulfed in flames in Kumanovo’s Chelopek village.
“A life has been lost, safety first is what we have been saying in the past few days,” Angelov told reporters urging people to evacuate in case a wildfire starts spreading rapidly.
“Houses will be repaired, the government and the municipalities will help, but lives lost cannot be brought back to life,” he said stressing that the Center is focused on public health and safety first.
Angelov raised suspicion over the fact that wildfires have broken out on several locations at the same time. “Police are working on determining what have caused them,” he said.
Interior Ministry teams are on site in the village of Chelopek after media reports that a person went missing in the fire. The house, which burnt down, is being combed through as part of search efforts to find the body of the missing woman, said Zhaklina Jovanovska, Mayor of Staro Nagorichane.
Two fires were reported on Wednesday in Chelopek. Firefighting teams responded to the fires with the second down burning house, premises and livestock.
