Ohrid-St.Naum road rehabilitated, put into use

Ohrid, 13 June 2025 (MIA) - The 24.4km-long Ohrid-St.Naum road has been rehabilitated and put into use. The EUR 11.7-million investment of the State Roads Public Enterprise included a new asphalt, road markings, new security fences and lane expansion.

Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski said Ohrid, its citizens and the tourists deserve the road, which is another confirmation of the Government's commitment to build, with a plan in place, a clear vision and commitment.

"Several road sections are currently being built, such as Kichevo-Ohrid, Tetovo-Gostivar and Gostivar-Bukojchani, whereas the construction of Bukojchani-Kichevo section is currently in preparation. This means that we are completing the highway ring in western Macedonia but we are not stopping there. Our strategy is clear - infrastructure is not a cost but an investment in the country's future, opening the doors for tourism, economy, regional networking, jobs," said Mickoski.

Deputy PM and Minister of Transport Aleksandar Nikoloski said the Ohrid-St.Naum road is vital for the entire Lake Ohrid coast.

We have many more projects ahead. This Government has faced many problems since assuming office 11 months ago, because infrastructure problems were put to a halt, including this one," said Nikoloski.

State Roads director Koce Trajanovski said the rehabilitation works were completed on time, making the road safer.

"We have raised the standards of road safety, ensuring a proper link from Ohrid to the St.Naum monastery complex. Moreover, we are raising the tourism potential and stimulating economic development in the Ohrid region," said Trajanovski.

Ohrid Mayor Kiril Pecakov expressed satisfaction from the realization of the project, saying it solved one of the most urgent infrastructure problems.

"This is one of the most significant projects for Ohrid as the biggest travel destination in the region. This road opens new horizons for tourism in the area, providing safer access for tourists along the coast," underlined Pecakov.
