Ohrid farmer's market fire suspect detained

Skopje, 19 March 2024 (MIA) — The Ohrid Police Department has filed criminal charges against and taken into custody M.U. (20) from Skopje, who is suspected of causing the fire in which a restaurant in the farmers market in Ohrid was burned to the ground, a police report said.
Two days ago, the Ohrid Primary Public Prosecutor's Office said it had launched an investigation against the suspect and requested the Ohrid Primary Court issue a detention order against him to eliminate the risk of his fleeing or influencing witnesses.
According to the prosecutors in a press release, the suspect and an unknown accomplice threw an incendiary device at the restaurant located on Ohrid's Tourist Blvd on March 10.
In addition to the restaurant completely burining down, the fire damaged the surroundings and also put people in danger, the release said.
According to the police report, M.U. and his accomplice caused the fire on March 10 at 3:40 a.m. using a flammable liquid.
The suspect was taken to the Ohrid prison, where he will be detained for 30 days, the report said. mr/
