Berlin, 12 March 2023 (dpa/MIA) - Switzerland's overall World Cup champion Marco Odermatt won a second giant slalom in two days in Kranjska Gora, Slovenia on Sunday to retain this season's discipline title.
The 25-year-old's win on Saturday meant he wrapped up overall season glory given rival Aleksander Aamodt Kilde did not enter the race ahead of the World Cup finale in Andorra next week.
Like on Saturday, Odermatt led after the first run and then prevailed by 0.32 seconds. Unlike the previous day, Henrik Kristoffersen was second instead of third and Alexis Pinturault third instead of second.
It was a career-high 20th podium this season for Odermatt, who sealed a 11th overall season win and 22nd of his career. It was his sixth giant slalom triumph this season and 13th of his career.
The Olympic and world champion is the first men's skier to win two overall titles in a row since Austrian great Marcel Hirscher won eight straight from 2012-19.
Last weekend Odermatt became the first man to win five super-g World Cup ski races in one season in Aspen, Colorado as he clinched that discipline title in style for the first time.
