Observance of May 5-Macedonian Language Day

Skopje, 5 May 2023 (MIA) - Debates and cultural events will take place across North Macedonia on Friday on occasion of May 5-Macedonian Language Day. This year's slogan is "Write in Cyrillic!", highlighting the use of the Cyrillic script in electornic communication, especially at mobile devices.
A panel-discussion on affirmation of the Macedonian language and its Cyrillic letter will take place in the National Opera and Ballet, organized by the Ministry of Culture.
The discussion will focus on several topics related to the protection and affirmation of the language, the draft-law on use of the Macedonian language, digitization of files in the Macedonian Language Institute, the survival of the Macedonian language up to its standardization in 1945, language in media and other aspects, said the Ministry of Culture.
Culture Minister Bisera Kostadinovska-Stojchevska, Deputy PM for European Affairs Bojan Marichikj, Minister of Education and Science Yeton Shaqiri and EU Ambassador David Geer will take part in the discussion.
Events dedicated to the Macedonian language will also be held at the Macedonian Language Department within Faculty of Philology "Blazhe Koneski", National and University Library "St.Clement of Ohrid" and Macedonian Language Institute "Krste Misirkov".
In addition, several cultural events will take place in Skopje, including a concert of the Macedonian Music Youth in the Museum of Macedonian Struggle, a rock concert of high school students in the City Park, and a screening of film "Janza" directed by Nikola Kalajdzhiski, dedicated to the life and work of Blazhe Koneski, in the Cinematheque.
