Nuredini: Parliament adopts law securing funds for Regional Solid Waste Project
Skopje, 18 November 2022 (MIA) – At Friday’s session Parliament adopted the draft-law on a European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) loan for North Macedonia regarding the loan agreement for financing of the Regional Solid Waste Project. “Following the adoption of the Law we will proceed to sign the Agreement with the EBRD which will enable the beginning of the long-awaited implementation of the Regional Solid Waste Project, and for the first time since the independence, we will invest in the construction of waste management infrastructure in accordance with European standards. The secured funds will be used for the establishment and development of a regional waste management system in the Southeastern, Vardar, Pelagonia, Southwestern and Polog region. The total amount of funds granted by the EBRD loan is 55 million euro,” said Minister of Environment and Physical Planning Naser Nuredini. He added that the construction of an alternative road for all regional landfills is planned as part of the project. “Because of the project’s exceptional importance to the region we expect additional grant funds to be approved from the European funds through the Western Balkan Investment Framework (WBIF), and also, with the completion of the first phase of the implementation of the rapid measures in Rusino, the prerequisite for an additional grant of 9 million Swiss francs from the Swiss Government has been met as well,” said Nuredini. ad/ba/
