Skopje, 1 February 2023 (MIA) - North Macedonia’s Government at a session on Wednesday passed a draft law on the declaration of Matka Canyon as a protected area under Category III – Monument of Nature.  

“Having it finally passed after a long period of harmonization, a consensus is reached in the interest of protecting this unique national natural treasure,” said Environment Minister Naser Nuredini.  

Adopting the law will make it possible not only to protect natural values and biodiversity, but create new opportunities for sustainable management and development of the eco-system.
