Number of new COVID-19 infections drops: report
Skopje, 16 August 2022 (MIA) – A total of 3,477 new COVID-19 infections were registered across the country from August 8 until August 14, down 8.7 percent compared to the previous week, with Skopje reporting a majority of the cases, shows the latest report of the Public Health Institute.
During the same period, 7,682 samples were tested in labs equipped to detect COVID-19, with the percent of positive cases between 33.4% and 49.4%, which registers an average of 43.6%.
Cases of COVID-19 infections were registered in all age groups, shows the report. People over 60 make up most of the cases. Very few cases are registered in those aged 10-19.
In the reporting period, 3,750 patients recovered after isolating at home or in hospital, says the report.
In addition, 729 reinfections were registered, down 10.8% compared to the previous week.
Also, 16 coronavirus-related deaths were reported, same as the previous week. All patients died in hospital, and 15 of them had underlying conditions.
Last week, 52 patients were admitted for hospital treatment. Currently, 199 patients are treated in hospital, up 10.6% compared to the previous week.
Since the onset of the epidemic, North Macedonia has performed a total of 2,136,393 tests, recording 335,451 COVID-19 cases and 322,468 recoveries. The death toll has reached 9,424.
At the moment, 3,559 cases are active nationwide, including 1,445 in the capital Skopje.
