Novak Djokovic withdraws from National Bank Open in Toronto

London, 24 July 2023 (PA Media/dpa/MIA) - Novak Djokovic has withdrawn from next month's National Bank Open in Toronto due to fatigue, Tennis Canada has announced.

The 36-year-old Serbian missed out on a record-extending 24th Grand Slam singles title last week after defeat to Carlos Alcaraz in the men's Wimbledon singles final.

Djokovic said: "I have always enjoyed my time in Canada but after speaking with my team, we believe this is the right decision to take.

"I would like to thank Karl Hale, the tournament director, for understanding this decision. I really hope I can return to Canada and Toronto in the coming years to play in front of great fans there."

Following Djokovic's withdrawal from the tournament, which starts on August 5, the US's Christopher Eubanks will now gain automatic entry into the main draw.

Eubanks reached the quarter-finals at Wimbledon, with victories over world number five Stefanos Tsitsipas and British number one Cameron Norrie en route to the last eight.
