North Macedonia’s EU negotiations are a reality, MEP Joveva says in video address
Skopje, 7 October 2022 (MIA) – Slovenian MEP Irena Joveva, sent a video message of congratulations on the opening of North Macedonia’s EU negotiations, voicing support for the country’s European integration process.
“It’s important to stay firmly on the European path and for Macedonian citizens to know that the country’s European integration is a reality, which is achievable with a common commitment to the process of negotiations and work on the reform agenda,” Joveva said.
She noted that the negotiations with the European Union are open and the country has already started a new phase in European integration, which requires strong engagement and political will for fast and efficient implementation of reforms.
Joveva said North Macedonia has allies and many friends in the EU, adding that all efforts are worth it because North Macedonia’s European perspective is real despite the difficult decisions, which make it difficult for the citizens to believe that things are moving forward.
“North Macedonia really has many allies, many friends here in the EU, and what is most important is cooperation between us. There is no place here for national and party divisions. But there is a place for North Macedonia in the EU,” said Joveva.
According to her, now is not the time for barriers. “Now is the right moment to make use of the opportunity and use full capacity to set a good pace of conducting the negotiations, to achieve the goal set - North Macedonia becoming a member of the EU by 2030,” Joveva said.
“With our support, from your European friends, you will manage to overcome the challenges you will face during the negotiations. Rest assured that the transformation of society is worth doing because of the concrete benefits that the citizens will have,” she added.
MEP Joveva is part of the North Macedonia – EU Joint Parliamentary Committee, which was in session on Wednesday and Thursday, during which Deputy PM for European Affairs, Bojan Marichikj, also delivered an address.
