Skopje, 14 July 2021 (MIA) – Heads of the railway infrastructure companies from North Macedonia, Bulgaria and Albania agreed on more intensive cooperation in the construction of Corridor 8 railway section, signing a cooperation protocol in Sofia on Wednesday. Hari Lokvenec, head of the railway infrastructure public enterprise, said the meeting focused on activities related to the construction of the Corridor 8 railway section. “The discussion resulted in the signing of a trilateral protocol for cooperation, for the purpose of more intensive cooperation among the railway infrastructure companies,” said Lokvenec. He said earlier that all prerequisites have been created to complete the project for the construction of the railroad leading to Bulgaria by 2026. The second stage of the tendering procedure over the selection of a contractor for the first two sections Kumanovo-Belljakovce and Beljakovce-Kriva Palanka is ongoing, and the drafting of tendering documents for the third section Kriva Palanka-Bulgaria border is in the pipeline. “My Bulgarian colleague said they would complete their section from Sofia to the Macedonian border by the end of 2027, thus finally completing this infrastructure project,” noted Lokvenec.
