Spielberg, Austria, 28 June 2025 (dpa/MIA) - Lando Norris was fastest in second practice for the Formula One Austrian Grand Prix on Friday to lead a one-two for McLaren ahead of team-mate Oscar Piastri.
Norris clocked 1 minute 04.580 seconds to beat championship leader Piastri by 0.157s. Four-time defending champion Max Verstappen of Red Bull was third.
Norris missed first practice earlier as Formula Two title leader Alex Dunne took over his car as part of the mandatory rookie outings.
Lance Stroll of Aston Martin was a surprise in fourth, while Charles Leclerc of Ferrari was fifth and team-mate Lewis Hamilton was 10th.
First practice leader George Russell was sixth in the Mercedes. Russell became the first the first driver other than Verstappen and McLaren duo Piastri and Norris to win this season at the Canadian Grand Prix two weeks ago.
Verstappen was second in Montreal and will try to be back on the top of the podium at Red Bull's home race in Austria, but needs to watch out as he's one penalty point away from a race ban.
Piastri tops the drivers' standings 22 points ahead of Norris.
Tension between the two title contenders peaked at the Canadian GP when they collided with three laps left to the end of the race, with Norris braking too late and running into the back of the championship leader.
While Piastri finished the race in fourth, Norris couldn't cross the finish line and missed some crucial points.
Third practice and qualifying for Sunday's showdown are on Saturday.
