Nikoloski: Those responsible for abusing secret services and wiretapping in 2019-2024 to be prosecuted

Skopje, 1 September 2025 (MIA) - Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport Aleksandar Nikoloski in a Facebook post on Monday addressed reports from the National Security Agency regarding the wiretapping of journalists and current Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski during the period between 2019 and 2024.

Nikoloski said those responsible for the abuse of secret services should be held accountable as a prerequisite for democracy in Macedonia.

“When we were in the opposition, we voiced our suspicion that we are being followed by the secret services that were being abused by the Government of SDSM and DUI, and Stevo Pendarovski with them. We had suspicions that the intelligence agency was writing defamatory false reports to Western partners and allies, while the NSA was conducting surveillance and wiretapping. This was a method of political discretization that failed. The changes happened in last year’s elections, paving the way for a cleanup within the intelligence services and holding accountable those who abused them. I urge the Prosecutor’s Office to investigate this and prosecute those responsible. Enough with the abuse of the secret services,” Nikoloski wrote in the post.
