Nikoloski meets UKEF representatives in London: Launching most important regional high-speed railway project on Corridor X with UK support

Skopje, 22 October 2025 (MIA) - As part of his working visit to the United Kingdom, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport Aleksandar Nikoloski met Wednesday with representatives from the UK Export Finance (UKEF).  

Talks focused on the support the UKEF provides to Western Balkan countries in the areas of renewable energy sources, transport and healthcare, the Ministry of Transport said in a press release. 

Deputy PM Nikoloski highlighted the country's national strategic plans for the development and modernization of infrastructure, with a particular emphasis on the regional connection of the road and railway network, as well as green transition policies.

He devoted special attention to the construction of the high-speed railway as a project of national and regional importance that is being implemented with enormous support from the United Kingdom, including both financial support and the transfer of expert knowledge and practices.

"Macedonia is an example of how cooperation with the UKEF affects regional economic development," Nikoloski told participants in the meeting, adding that the United Kingdom is a strategic partner in the country's development and in that context the cooperation is aimed at supporting economic and social development, reads the press release. 

Interlocutors also exchanged information on the cooperation between North Macedonia and the United Kingdom in terms of the support provided by the UKEF within its state policies.

In addition to Deputy PM Nikoloski, the meeting was also attended by ministers from Serbia, Montenegro, Kosovo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Albania.
